The Creative Samba Project

The Creative Samba Project is a brand-new JuntaSamba program created and guided by Rapha.

Over the course of 14 weeks, you’ll step beyond simply learning choreography and enter a guided creative process designed to help you discover your own artistic voice through Samba and Brazilian dance.

Through creative exercises, movement research, improvisation and guided exploration, we’ll work with different musical genres and influences within Samba and Brazilian culture to expand the way you listen, move, create and make artistic choices.

From dancer to creator

Throughout the program, you’ll progressively develop your own individual dance piece.

This is your opportunity to bring together everything you’ve learned as a dancer so far while exploring a new side of yourself: the creator and artistic director.

What do you want your piece to communicate?

Are you telling a story? Creating a feeling? Exploring a character, an energy or a particular universe?

How does your music influence your movement? What do your costume and styling say about the world you are creating?

There is no single answer and no identical final result. Rapha will guide you through exercises and creative tools that help you research, experiment, make choices and transform your ideas into movement.

The process will include exploration, internal work and artistic reflection — translated into your dancing.

Your own final creation

By the end of the program, each participant will have developed an individual dance piece with their own movement choices, concept and artistic direction.

Rather than giving you a finished choreography to reproduce, this program gives you tools and guidance to create something that feels like your work.

And to preserve everything you’ve created, participants will have the optional opportunity to professionally film their final piece.

The filming will take place as a separate professional production experience with a videographer, allowing you to bring your complete vision to life on camera.

Estimated filming investment: $195–$250 + tax per participant, depending on the number of dancers participating. Participation in the professional filming is optional, and the final cost will be confirmed separately.

This program is designed for dancers who already have a Samba foundation and are ready to explore beyond technique and choreography into creation, interpretation and artistic direction.

  • Weekly Commitment: 2 hours of Samba training for 14 weeks

    Meeting with Rapha: 1:1 30-min zoom call at any moment throughout the program, to help you develop your vision

    Intimate Group Setting: Limited to 10 members

    Professional Filming Opportunity: Yes, at the end of the program

    High Heels Practice: Certain classes will be dedicated for mastering skills in high heels

    Costumes :
    No costumes are included in this program, students will be able to create their own. Or also use a passista dress previously purchased.

    Optional Samba High Heels: If needed you could purchase heels from Rio. (150$ shipping TBC) If you want to purchase heels you must notify your organizer upon registration. 

    WhatsApp Support Group: For ongoing assistance and community connection. 

    Contract Agreement: Ensures mutual understanding and commitment.
